    Burt’s Bees partners with TerraCycle

Burt’s Bees has partnered with TerraCycle to launch not one, but two new recycling programmes, offering a free and simple
nationwide recycling solution for personal care products in the UK. The Burt’s Bees Personal Care Recycling Programme allows consumers to recycle their personal care product packaging that cannot be recycled through local council systems. Items such as flexible plastic and metallic plastic tubes, flexible plastic towelettes packaging, eye shadow compacts, lipsticks, lip balms and even mascara wands across any brand can now be recycled through TerraCycle. Once collected and sent to TerraCycle, all packaging is then separated by polymer type, shredded, cleaned and then turned into plastic pellets. The recycled pellets can then be used by the manufacturers of a variety of products such as outdoor furniture, fence posts or construction applications. The second scheme available is the Burt’s Bees® Towelette Recycling programme, giving consumers the ability to recycle their facial towelettes from Burt’s Bees® which cannot currently be recycled through local council systems. These are turned into granules which can then be extruded to make lumber which can be used by manufacturers to make the likes of outdoor furniture. Both programmes are open to individuals, schools, organisations and companies based in the UK. Simply drop off at your nearest public drop-off point or register as a private collector via burtsbees.co.uk/terracycle/ to take part. Once registered, download a free UPS label via your account and attach to your box of items once you have at least 500g of packaging ready to send back (please note this excludes the weight of the box). TerraCycle rewards the sender for their efforts, the more you save and recycle the more charity points earned. The number of points given is determined by the total weight of the shipment. 1 TerraCycle point is worth 1 penny. The points can then be redeemed by the sender as financial donations to the school, charity or non-profit of their choice. The points must be redeemed on the TerraCycle website.
