Wella Professionals announces global partnership with UNICEF

Wella Professionals is proud to announce its global partnership with UNICEF, the world’s leading children’s organisation, will be activated in the UK & Ireland from January 2013. The long-term fundraising program between Wella, UNICEF, stylists and their clients from all around the world aims to transform the lives of vulnerable young people in emerging countries, starting with Brazil and most recently Romania – through a hairdressing education, life skills and mentoring program.

To date, the program has raised more than £680,000 to help vulnerable young people in Recife and Belém to develop valuable hairdressing skills to give them more opportunities in life. As part of the programme, there is a two-week mentoring scheme where Wella hairdressers from across the Globe travel to Brazil to share their hairdressing passion and knowledge with these young people. WELLA UK & Ireland will be joining a mentoring trip to Brazil by sending two hairdressers to share their skills in September.

There are a number of other ways UK salons will be able to get involved locally with the program. For each specially marked product sold in salon Wella will provide funding for one half hour training class for a young person in Brazil.*  January 2013 also sees the beginning of fundraising activity throughout a variety of UK and Ireland Wella salons which will support the WELLA-UNICEF MAKING WAVES project to raise even more money for the world’s children.

Hairdressing education is a key component of the WELLA-UNICEF MAKING WAVES program but it also covers a much broader curriculum designed to give the young people involved a wide set of life skills. The programme is also dedicated to galvanising local organisations to empower change within their communities and deliver the tools and life skills to young people to help them realize their potential.

Over three years the global program aims to:

    – Help young people follow a new career by offering them the possibility to follow professional hairdressing education in three new fully equipped hairdressing training centers

    – Enable hairdressers from supporting countries to share their passion and knowledge with disadvantaged young people in the field for 2 weeks every year

    – Help the graduated students find opportunities to build hairdressing careers in their country and increase their skills through Wella Professionals’ solid network and education program
