For Spring/Summer 2017 River Island has announced that British label Tourne de Transmission will be the next designer to create a Design Forum collection, sold exclusively for River island. Inspired by the brand’s eastern infused design philosophy, the collection draws from Japanese clothing cultures old and new. The 14-piece ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories range epitomises Tourne de Transmission’s ability to re-interpret traditional influences and pattern cutting with a distinct contemporary aesthetic. Kimono and wide leg trouser shapes are cut from natural cloths such as linen, canvas, cotton and denim. The western shirt is cut in a patchwork design inspired by the Japanese Boro technique. Modern nods to this garment construction method are realised in the block jersey sweat, patchwork denim jacket and matching jeans. The muted colour palette is synonymous with established Japanese methods, with earthy tones of nude and grey in the jersey complimented by deep black and indigo hues in the denim and outerwear. Available in selected stores and online from January 2017.
