New fashion school Rare School of Fashion launches

This month sees the launch of new fashion school Rare School of Fashion. Co-founded by Liverpool-born Shaun Kearney, the Vice-President of Design for LA-based label Fabletics, The Rare School of Fashion will deliver high-level industry training to young people, particularly those with exceptional talent who struggle to access conventional further education. The course grants all successful students between the ages of 16-18 a BTEC level three qualification, which is fully funded in collaboration with Broadgreen International School. For those over 18, a private course is available. Fees are means-tested and based around what students can afford. The school will also offer a fully funded scholarship to one talented student above the age of 18. Clare Wilson, head of local accessory brand Nook and Willow, will lead the course, with local designer Kirsty Doyle and jeweller Benna Harry joining the Rare School of Fashion faculty. Joanne Watkinson, a stylist who assisted in the setup of Very Exclusive, will also teach classes at the Studio’s base on Wood Street. The course syllabus covers all aspects of the industry, including hands-on design, theory and business. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their work on an in-house catwalk, with a public show scheduled for the end of the year. Rare School of Fashion is currently hosting interviews for students with courses commencing on September 21.
